Based in Vancouver, Teresa Lian is a multilingual agent with a background in literary and academic translation. With degrees in marketing and accounting and nearly twenty years of experience in sales and marketing, she likes to get involved in every aspect of a writer’s career, both pre- and post-sale. She has conducted multiple workshops on book sales, marketing trends, and the state of the publishing industry with a focus on North American and Asian markets, and is currently hunting for new projects for both markets.
At the moment she seeks adult fiction only, with emphasis on literary (with strong plot and charismatic characters), upmarket mystery and crime (especially genre benders which aim to say something important), intelligent suspense, as well as the rational end of speculative. In every case, the only things that count are the quality of the prose and what it says about the world.
Her response time (only to the projects she is interested in) is three weeks. She never charges any reading fees, handles all queries and inquiries promptly, and prides herself on cultivating not only partnerships but also friendships with writers and editors. Her last sale, before a prolonged maternity leave, was with Routledge (nonfiction).
